This may be my shortest
rant post ever. I love commenting on blogs, but am I the only one who has trouble with those little security words you have to type at the end? Look at this one. What the heck is that??? Apparently, I’m about as intelligent as a spam-bot, because I have no clue.
What about you? Do you mind having to type something in at the end of a comment?
I almost forgot to tell you guys about the cool thing that happened at RWA12 last week…
Well, let’s start the tale with the fact that Shadow Rising, book 2 in my spicy urban fantasy series with Samhain is coming out next month!!! Well, I’m excited about this fact, so I scraped together my nickels and dimes and came up with the money to put a little black and white ad in September’s issue of RT magazine.
I was so pleased when I opened the magazine and saw my ad! (September’s issue arrives to most people in the first week of August, but they had it at the conference a week early!!)
This is what my little ad baby looked like:
Isn’t it precious?? *cuddle*
So when my friend Melissa Cutler asked if I’d seen my book in RT, I proudly answered yes and opened the magazine to the page that sported my ad. But then she said something like, “No, not that one–the other one.”
Gasp. Was she crazy? What was she talking about? So I frantically flipped through until I stumbled upon this:
EEeeeppp!!!!!! It was like my ad, only what my ad would have turned out like if it had been raised in a better home and Harvard educated. With celebrity parents. The picture doesn’t do it justice. It’s bright and shiny. Sparkly, even. I was gushing all over the place, ready to have Samhain’s little book babies right then and there.
So…there’s really no moral to this story other than I wanted to gush over my book baby a little. Isn’t she so cute?
And if you’d like to see the bright, shiny version, pick up a copy of this month’s RT magazine.😀
Okay, I tried to get out of it, but I promised everyone a picture me and my friends dancing at the Samhain party at RWA nationals. The good dancers next to me are Lisa Kessler and Jill Sorenson–the same awesome women who danced the night away with me at RT 2011. I’m the one whose hand is poised under her derriere, doing a totally cool and original dance move!! (One I’m sure you’ve never seen before and–hopefully for you–will never see again!) You may think Lisa and I are talking over something important while we dance, but in the interest of full disclosure…we were probably singing–LOUDLY.
And now that I’ve tarnished my dear friends’ reputations by putting them on them web dancing next to me, I should probably also show you how beautiful and normal they are when not dancing.😀
Have a great weekend, everyone!
I just got back from RWA 2012, and I’m still catching my breath from a super busy, super fun July. Instead of simply telling you about it, I thought I’d add some pictures this time.
First fun thing in July was Comic-Con! My friend Janet and I made it to the TrueBlood panel and saw all our favorite characters in the flesh. But celebrities aren’t the only fun people to gawk at. These guys were cool, too!
But once Comic-Con was over, I was on puppy patrol. My mom’s poodle was due to give birth and we weren’t sure when, so Mom and her poodle moved in with me for a week so I could use my superhero-canine-midwifery skills to assist. As it turned out, the first puppy was stuck for 30 minutes before my mom woke me, but not only was I able to get it unstuck, with a little CPR, the puppy pulled through! That’s a picture of the pup below. He’s doing great! My son named him Casper, thinking the pup was a white poodle, but he’s going to be apricot, which is like a light peachy tan. Hmm…
Unfortunately, my own dog, Daisy, a nine-year-old golden retriever took a turn for the worse and needed major surgery two days before I left for RWA 2012 in Anaheim. She’s doing great now and I’m so happy! The family did such a wonderful job caring for her while I was away. And I can’t imagine missing RWA, especially since I had a huge first in my writing career—a book signing!!!😀
No, that’s not your imagination…that’s an actual line to get a free digital copy of Slayer’s Kiss!! I was busy signing the entire hour and gave away my whole stack of download vouchers! Of course, the chocolate on the end of the table didn’t hurt business, either.
I had the best time at the RWA national conference with my roomies Lisa Kessler and Melissa Cutler!! The workshops were wonderful and the parties were even better. In the next couple of days, I’m going to try to post pictures of me, Lisa Kessler, and Jill Sorenson dancing at the Samhain after party! And when you see my strange dance move that the picture was so kind to capture—it’ll be totally worth the wait! ;D
Happy Thursday, everyone!!! I’m over at Yummy Men and Kick-ass Chicks today talking about blending urban fantasy and erotica in my new novel, Slayer’s Kiss! Comment on TM&KAC for a chance to win one of three digital copies of Slayer’s Kiss!! Let’s give those heroines a little “happy” in their days…😉
